UNCLE JIMMY GORDON PASSES AWAY THIS MORNING AT AN EARLY HOUR WAS 97 YEARS OF AGE

His Children Were All Present at His Bedside When the End Came

James S. Gordon, the oldest man in Montgomery county, died at 1 o'clock this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Samantha Sanders, four miles south of this city.  His children, Mrs. Mary Dickerson of Indianapolis, Mrs. Elizabeth Rantham of Greencastle, Mrs. Samantha Sanders of south of town, and Thomas J. Gordon of Indianapolis, were all present at his bedside when the end came.  The deceased was a native Hoosier, having been born near Liberty, Indian, July 14, 1814.

The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock from the Bainbridge Baptist church and the services will be in charge of Rev. J.H. Oliphant of this city.  Interment will be at Bainbridge cemetery.

On July 14, Uncle Jimmy celebrated his 97th birthday.  At the time he was growing quite feeble and fears were entertained for his recovery.  His death was due to senility more than to any other ailment.  Mr. Gordon retained his mental faculties very well for one so near the century mark.  He has been living with his children since the death of his wife some twelve years ago, which occurred while they were living in Highland.  The greater part of Mr. Gordon's life was spent near Bainbridge on a farm.
